Dr. Ana María Gonzalez-Angulo’s career reflects a rare kind of leadership—visionary, inclusive, multidisciplinary, and global. A triple-boarded physician-scientist with extensive academic, clinical, and administrative experience across the Americas and Europe, Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo has led at every level: from directing research teams at world-class cancer centers to guiding international oncology networks, mentoring future leaders, and shaping global strategies in breast cancer treatment and research.
Her leadership journey began in Colombia, where even as a young physician, she served as Acting Director of Centro-Hospital Bello Horizonte. After moving to the United States for postgraduate training in internal medicine and oncology, she soon rose through the academic ranks at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center—one of the most prestigious cancer institutions in the world.
At MD Anderson, Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo was not only a prolific researcher and clinician but also a strategic leader. As Chief of the Section of Clinical Research and Drug Development in the Department of Breast Medical Oncology, she led one of the most productive translational oncology units globally. Under her leadership, the department integrated state-of-the-art molecular research into clinical trial design, significantly influencing how triple-negative and HER2-positive breast cancers are treated worldwide.
